Today sports, tomorrow film and entertainment?

Northcliffe Media is rolling out a series of sports websites in its north-east region (including Hull, Lincoln and Grimsby). The websites include:

Articles covering the entire local sports spectrum
Daily video reports from the papers’ sports journalists
Inevitably also some ‘user-generated’ content.

Northcliffe is moving towards integrated teams of multi-media correspondents, embracing digital publishing as well as printed products.

In 2006, the Hull Daily Mail jointly won the Innovation of the Year prize at the Press Gazette regional press awards, for being the first regional newspaper to produce online video content on a daily basis. This year’s regional press awards will be announced on Friday 29 June.

On the subject of awards, back in April 2007, the Daily Record was named newspaper of the year at the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society awards. Arts/entertainment writer of the year, for the fourth year running, was Catherine Deveney of Scotland on Sunday.

Chairman of the judges, Charles Wilson, reflected the thoughts of many when he said: “In what has been a turbulent year in the media industry, the quality of newspaper journalism has not faltered.”
